Additionally, another required DaRT file named DaRTConfig.dat will be added into the mounted boot image.Īt the end if all of the above was successful, the script will dismount and commit all changes made to the boot image. The boot image will then be mounted to the temporary location specified as parameter input and DaRT components expanded into the mounted boot image. Below is a list of what you’d need to have installed on your Primary Site server: Script requirementsīefore you run the script, there’s a few requirements that needs to be in place for it to fully function. This post will not cover any of the benefits of doing this integration, it’s merely a way of contributing the script that I put together that has been published in our SCConfigMgr github repository for some time now. Some time back I found myself integrating DaRT a little bit more than I would allow myself for manually going through those guides, hence here’s the PowerShell way of doing all of this. Over the years it’s been relatively common to include Microsoft DaRT into your boot image used for OSD in ConfigMgr and several blog posts have explained the process with a step-by-step approach. Each of the tools has a separate settings window, which greatly simplifies the work without cluttering the interface. Inkscape provides many full-featured and well-designed tools for creating, editing and converting vectors. Meanwhile, if a tool is chosen to make the selected node symmetrical, it will let users pull out one side of the handle and the other side – to scale accordingly. It allows manipulating many parts of an object and moving its edges in various ways. Bezier handles are used for easy movement of nodes. Inkscape provides tools for moving nodes and Bezier handles. Nodes allow artists and designers to manipulate objects, images and graphics that are vectorized. Nodes are structures that show how vector graphics are created, and they are associated with some mathematical operations. Like Illustrator, the program includes such tools as Diagram Connector, 3D box Sculpt/Paint. Inkscape supports various gradients and offers a separate tool for creating complex combinations. Moreover, dot formatting in Flow Text often leads to unpleasant changes. Also, I don’t like the fact that the editor doesn’t have a feature to create paragraphs or character styles. The available formatting functions of this vector drawing software may seem incomplete or less flexible than those of direct competitors such as CorelDraw.Īccessing various functions, such as OpenType, causes difficulties because you have to assign a specific tool manually. To fix this, use a "Remove manual kernels" feature that fixes all custom formatting and typically solves the problem. Inkscape’s streaming text won’t be supported outside the program, so you will need to convert it into plain text, for instance, before exporting for web design.īesides, if you copy and paste text from Illustrator or other programs using more sophisticated printing tools, Inkscape can paste gobbledygook. To do this, you need to use the Flow Text tool, which can be installed inside any shape, and with Regular Text, you can choose any desired font and its size. You may easily create individual text lines without frames in addition to the paragraph type. This free vector graphics software copes perfectly with printing and preparing files for it. To get rid of the unnecessary panels, go to “View” – “Hide”. However, I like that the editor lets you customize the interface, remove or add functions and tools. At the top of the program window, there is a panel with various functions, on the left – basic tools, and on the right – the command bar.Īll this together may seem difficult for a beginner. It hasn’t been updated for more than 5 years. Cluttered and Inconvenient InterfaceĪll available versions of Inkscape software for Windows, Mac OS and Linux have a fairly old interface. Unlike Illustrator and Photoshop, Inkscape has minimal system requirements, and is also highly optimized (programs like GIMP and PhotoScape also have a minimum system requirements threshold, but are poorly optimized). I tested Inkscape on a fairly weak laptop for architecture and I was pleasantly surprised with the speed and responsiveness. Inkscape is a cross-platform vector graphics editor with advanced tools. Active noise cancellation can handle more decibels than passive, making it the best choice for those who are challenged to find some peace and quiet.Ĭomfort is always a concern when choosing a headset, and it’s one area that can be very subjective. The way the earpiece seals against your ear, for instance, will keep noise out. Passive noise cancellation has more to do with the build of the headphones. With active noise cancellation, the device monitors the surrounding environment and uses technology to create the perfect white noise to cancel it out. There are also two types of noise cancellation: active and passive. Look for this feature on both ends if you regularly spend time in noisy places. Some headsets offer this feature to help you hear better, while others focus on making sure what you’re saying comes through loud and clear. This means that if you take a call in a packed call center, you’ll be able to shut out all that background noise. Some modern Bluetooth headsets use noise-canceling technology to boost your call clarity. Although audio clarity is important for phone calls, you’ll need even better quality for music, especially if you’re picky about your sound quality.Ĭlear calls go beyond sound quality, though. Today’s headsets include noise-canceling capabilities to shut out background noise, both for you and the person at the other end of the call.īefore you start shopping for a Bluetooth headset, though, you’ll need to decide whether you plan to use it solely for phone calls or to listen to music as well. This incorrect pathway means that they are often learning a harder mathematics and sadly, they often face a lifetime of mathematics problems. The researchers concluded that low achievers are often low achievers not because they know less but because they don’t use numbers flexibly – they have been set on the wrong path, often from an early age, of trying to memorize methods instead of interacting with numbers flexibly (Boaler, 2009). The high achieving students used strategies such as changing the numbers into 20 -15 which is much easier to do. When the low achieving students were given subtraction problems such as 21-16 they counted backwards, starting at 21 and counting down, which is extremely difficult to do. No students who had been nominated as low achieving used number sense. The high achievers approached problems such as 19 + 7 by changing the problem into, for example, 20 + 6. The researchers found an important difference between the low and high achieving students – the high achieving students used number sense, the low achieving students did not. The students, aged 7 to 13, had been nominated by their teachers as being low, middle or high achieving. In a critical research project researchers studied students as they solved number problems (Gray & Tall, 1994). That is because I have number sense, something that is much more important for students to learn, and that includes learning of math facts along with deep understanding of numbers and the ways they relate to each other. This has never held me back at any time or place in my life, even though I am a mathematics education professor. I grew up in the progressive era of England, when primary schools focused on the ‘whole child’ and I was not presented with tables of addition, subtraction or multiplication facts to memorize in school. But I learned math facts through using them in different mathematical situations, not by practicing them and being tested on them. I don’t stop and think about the answer to 8 plus 4, because I know that math fact. It is useful to hold some math facts in memory. Both of these ideas are wrong and it is critical that we remove them from classrooms, as they play a large role in the production of math anxious and disaffected students. Unfortunately many classrooms focus on math facts in unproductive ways, giving students the impression that math facts are the essence of mathematics, and, even worse that the fast recall of math facts is what it means to be a strong mathematics student. Math facts, themselves, are a small part of mathematics and they are best learned through the use of numbers in different ways and situations. They would not have to rely on a distant memory. People with number sense are those who can use numbers flexibly. When asked to solve 7 x 8 someone with number sense may have memorized 56 but they would also be able to work out that 7 x 7 is 49 and then add 7 to make 56, or they may work out ten 7’s and subtract two 7’s (70-14). This was ironic as his mistake revealed the limitations of memorization without ‘number sense’. The English minister’s mistake when he was asked 7 x 8 prompted calls for more memorization. Mathematics facts are important but the memorization of math facts through times table repetition, practice and timed testing is unnecessary and damaging. Unfortunately misinterpretations of the meaning of the word ‘fluency’ in the CCSS are commonplace and publishers continue to emphasize rote memorization, encouraging the persistence of damaging classroom practices across the United States. The US is moving in the opposite direction, as the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) de-emphasize the rote memorization of math facts. This requirement has now been placed into the UK’s mathematics curriculum and will result, I predict, in rising levels of math anxiety and students turning away from mathematics in record numbers. This past September the Conservative education minister for England, a man with no education experience, insisted that all students in England memorize all their times tables up to 12 x 12 by the age of 9. His error prompted widespread ridicule in the national media, accompanied by calls for a stronger emphasis on ‘times table’ memorization in schools. The right honorable minister was asked to give the answer to 7 x 8 and he gave the answer of 54, instead of the correct 56. With the help of Cathy Williams, co-founder youcubed & Amanda Confer, Stanford UniversityĪ few years ago a British politician, Stephen Byers, made a harmless error in an interview. The ( £65/ $99) Logitech G303 Shroud Edition is an ultra-light evolution of the old diamond-shaped G303 Daedalus Apex wired mouse, adding Lightspeed wireless connectivity, a more prominent hump and the company's 25,000 DPI Hero sensor. The wireless model is more pleasant to use, with convenient (if slightly too frequent) USB-C charging to top up the battery. If you like the design - and we do quite a bit - this is a strong choice, especially at its attractively low price point for the wired model. The combination works well in game, and the weight of 81g for wireless and 68g for wired is respectably low. The specs here are top notch too, including a soft and flexible cable, Pixart 3370 (wired) or 3389 (wireless) optical sensors and Roccat's own Titan optical switches - which we loved in their Vulcan mechanical keyboards. This prevents dust or moisture ingress, a worry for some potential ultra-light purchasers, while still cutting weight and showing off that cool hexagonal pattern. The first thing you're likely to notice when plugging this mouse in is this cool subsurface honeycomb design, which is revealed by RGB lighting below. It uses an ambidextrous design this time, like the Roccat Kiro, making it suitable for left or right-handed use, unlike the Pure Ultra which was an ergonomic right-handed design. The ( £60/ $44) Burst Pro Air and ( £32/ $30) Burst Pro are solid evolutions beyond Roccat's first ultra-light mouse, the Kone Pure Ultra. A smaller Model O- Wireless also exists for those with smaller hands. Glorious' wireless tech isn't quite as developed as that of Logitech, with higher click latency, but it's not something you'll notice outside of laboratory testing or esports tournaments. The Model O Wireless ( £60/ $80) is also available, which costs a bit more and is a bit heavier at 69g, but offers a more comfortable gaming experience. The same design is also available in a smaller size as the ( £39/ $50) Glorious Model O-, a great choice for smaller hands or those looking for even lower weights (58g for the Minus versus 67g for the vanilla Model O). The Model O is an excellent ultra-light for gamers with medium to large hands. It also ranks highly as it's an extremely affordable ultra-light. The ( £38/ $50) Glorious Model O remains our pick for the best gaming mouse on the market, thanks to a clever design that combines a range of modern trends: a weight-saving honeycomb design, an extremely flexible "shoelace" cable, a modern PMW 3360 optical sensor and RGB lighting. Some of these mice even forgo the holey look, with internal modifications to bring weight down and an intact outer shell. Following the first releases by specialists like Glorious and Finalmouse, almost every major brand now has at least one ultra-light mice of their own with new sizes, shapes and features. These lightweight mice use honeycomb designs and other measures to cut mass wherever possible, making for a more manoeuvrable mouse that's easier to aim.
